Sikh group welcomes 100 volunteers to chaplaincy

The UK Sikh Healthcare chaplaincy group, a charity that exists to support chaplaincy provision in the United Kingdom for Sikhs has recruited over 100 volunteers to its ranks in 2012.

Throughout 2012, the group launched a project to engage with Gurdwaras and community members across the country to find volunteers for chaplaincy.  In September, the group announced they had now received over 100 names and were planning on a major drive to place these volunteers in hospitals across the country.

Welcoming the success of the project, Sital Singh Maan, Chair of the UK Sikh Healthcare chaplaincy group said "We've been working on chaplaincy provision for over 10 years and currently have over 50 Sikh chaplains active in the UK. A small proportion of these are paid by the NHS, but the vast majority are volunteers. Our recent drive to find more people has been successful but we still need more names to fill the vast gaps that we have as a community in hospitals across the country".

Sikhs interested in becoming chaplains should contact visit the website www.sikhchaplaincy.org.uk or contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for further details.

The group plans to bring awareness of their services by advertising in the Indian papers "The Panjab Times" and "Des Pardes" as well as Indian Radio and TV channels.  We will also be holding a series of information days and place newly recruited chaplains in 2013 to their nearest Hospitals.  We are keen to hear from more volunteers.
